??2012?Region VI News Releases
DENTON, Texas -- Ida, Louisiana is now a participating community in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and that means those living and working in the village can purchase flood insurance.
You don?t have to live or have a business in a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) to flood.? Anyone can be financially vulnerable to floods as resident and business owners outside of high-risk areas file over 20 percent of NFIP claims and receive one-third of disaster assistance for flooding.? The average annual U.S. flood losses in the past 10 years (2001-2010) were more than $2.7 billion.
By joining the NFIP on Feb. 28, 2012, the village of Ida can now offer its citizens a more cost-effective way to recover from a flooding event.
Local Caddo Parish officials are currently working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on preliminary flood maps so residents will have an increased awareness of their potential flood risk.
Homeowners, renters and business owners may view this map as well as provide a comment, appeal or protest up until April 10.? To learn more please contact Caddo Parish Floodplain Administrator James Demouchet at 318-226-6931.

FEMA?s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
