Is it really spring? Like really really? We keep on getting the head fake of warmer temperature only to have Ol? Man Winter dunking in our collective grills with a blast of cold air. Well, to that I say hack the bum and send him flying into the front row seats. (It?s the basketball playoffs, after all ? when things get a bit rougher). And while he recovers, get yourself out to the Cape May Spring Festival and enjoy a number of food and drink events going on from now until May 5. The events include a special Cape May Wine Trail on Saturday from 12PM to 5:30PM, which includes tastings at Natali, Hawk Haven and Willow Creek as well as lunch at Aleathea?s at The Inn at Cape May. Next Saturday is the annual Chocolate Championship Tour and Tasting that takes you throughout the town to a number of the beautiful inns. The tasting runs from 1PM to 3PM.

Friday night is a Food Flight, and a ?Taste of Italy? one at that, at Fitzpatrick?s Deli & Steakhouse in Somers Point. The dinner starts at 6PM and costs $50 per person. Make sure you reserve ahead of time.

Then on Saturday it?s the big boffo Somers Point Bayfest on Bay Avenue. The admission is free and the food vendors will be plentiful.

Saturday is also the day (or should I say night) of the Spring Beer Fest at Blue Monkey Tavern in Merchantville. The beer lineupo they will have looks impressive. The beer fest runs from 5PM to 9PM and it is $35 per person.

And all weekend long is the Pinelands Reserve Wine Trail Spring Trolley Tour, with tours at 11:30AM, 1PM and 1:30PM. The cost is $30 per person, and it is strongly suggested that you call and reserve your tickets in advance.

If you care to venture out of South Jersey?

It?s the annual Shad Fest in Lambertville this weekend!

And in Philly it?s the Craft Beer and Oyster Fest at Doc Magrogan?s Oyster House.

About John Howard-Fusco

John Howard-Fusco started eating at a very young age, and hasn't stopped since. In between bites he managed to: finish high school in Willingboro (his hometown), graduate from Stern School of Business at NYU, work in financial services for 15 years, get married and have two beautiful children. Suddenly, it dawned on him that maybe he could write about all this eating business. And so he did, and so he does.
