TOKYO (MNI) ? The government has nominated Nomura Securities chief
economist Takahide Kiuchi and Morgan Stanley MUFG Securities chief
economist Takehiro Sato to the Bank of Japan policy board, the Nikkei
reported on Monday.

The government notified the nominations at a joint parliamentary
administration meeting of lawmakers from both chambers on Monday, it
said. BOJ policymaker appointments need approval by both houses of the
Diet.

Two posts on the BOJ?s nine-member policy board have been vacant
since early April.

In March, the government nominated Ryutaro Kono, chief economist at
BNP Paribas, as a candidate to succeed one of the two retiring BOJ board
members but the opposition-controlled upper house of rejected his
nomination in April.

Seiji Nakamura, a former shipping firm executive, and Hidetoshi
Kamezaki, who came from a trading firm, left the BOJ board on April 4 at
the end of their five-year terms.
